People came dressed. That was my first takeaway from the inaugural PoloFest, held over three recent days in Tokyo. The brand took over a modern two-story building on the edge of Harajuku and transformed it into something that was part marketplace, part museum and part town square where Polo devotees descended from around the world. Men and women of all ages, decked out in a wide range of Ralph’s finest, swapped stories and posed for fit pics in the courtyard.
The layers! The textures and combinations that, on paper, suggest someone couldn’t decide between a weekend at a country estate, a semester at an Ivy League school or a shift on a Montana ranch. A denim jacket under a tweed blazer, topped with a nylon windbreaker. On a rainy day in Tokyo, and in the world of Ralph Lauren, it all makes perfect sense.
