You're not alone if your introduction to seersucker was Atticus Finch's courtroom suit from To Kill a Mockingbird in the 1962 classic. The puckered fabric has come a long way since its origin in India and Great Britain, where it gained popularity as a soft, breathable fabric that won't easily crease while withstanding multiple wears between washes.

Seersucker is one of the best options to stay cool and the bonus is that it's unique enough to turn heads (in a good way). While the style has more recently become synonymous with southern fraternities and horse racing, the look is evolving thanks in large part to some of menswear's coolest brands modernizing the classic style with smart tailoring and subtle updates.

Today's conveniences like air conditioning and cold brew coffee might not make the old school stripes a sartorial mandate for summer survival, but it's still a look worth embracing and investing in. The key to pulling off seersucker is checking the forecast, carrying a touch of confidence and maybe a pair of horn-rimmed sunglasses to complete the look. Herewith, our favorite pieces to beat the heat.
