Winter’s coolest sweaters can be found on the big screen

Chris Evan in a Peregrine sweater in Knives Out movie

Not since The Dude showed up in The Big Lebowski wearing Pendleton's original Westerly cardigan has knitwear been so talked about after leaving a theater. But this winter, it seems, that the coolest sweaters have all been worn by wild characters on the big screen. It makes sense, in a way. Don't we all project ourselves onto the characters we see in the movies? Since we know you want the sweaters from the films below, we pulled together the best options to give your winter wardrobe some leading man style.

Chris Evans in Knives Out

Knives Out

There's plenty to like about Rian Johnson's new detective homage to the classic Agatha Christie stories. There's the sharp cast of dysfunctional family members and the successfully deployed witty dialogue. But it's Chris Evan's sweater that seems to have all of the internet talking. Costume designer Jenny Eagan said she chose the classic Aran sweater so quickly in a fitting she didn't even know who made it. But she did address the thirsty takes in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "I'm not sure if it's the sweater or who's wearing the sweater," she joked. That might be part of it, too. For your own take, here are three well made alternatives.

Daniel Craig in No Time To Die

No Time To Die

The commando sweater Daniel Craig wears in the upcoming James Bond film, No Time to Die (his last time playing 007), started getting attention when the posters were released. And the navy ribbed sweater, complete with military-style shoulder/elbow patches and a drawstring collar was featured in the just-released trailer. This particular sweater was made by frequent Bond outfitter N.Peal, but the London-based brand said that it won't be available to the public until early 2020. For now, you'll have to settle for another ribbed N.Peal style or similar (but decidedly less luxe) versions.

Robert Pattinson in The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse

The popular psychodrama about two lighthouse keepers, played by Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson, made waves this fall. Not just for their wild behavior, but for the period costumes that were handsome as hell. "The sweaters were hand-knit using yarn sourced in the Maritime provinces here in Canada," says costume designer Linda Muir. "Actual sweaters from that period truly exemplify utility knitting at its best—you might be able to get one online from Ireland through Aran Sweater Market, but it wouldn't be as detailed." For other options, try these soft yet hardy knits.
