Have you had this experience? Every time I step inside a Todd Snyder shop, I feel like I’ve stumbled into a really cool and well-dressed novelist’s study. There’s a mix of vintage furnishings and mid-century furniture, a beautiful bar and statement light fixtures. I’m usually trying on a piece in the dressing room, muttering to myself, “someone should live here.”
Now, someone can. Snyder just partnered with CB2 on his new Townhouse Collection, a wide ranging 65-piece homeware line that marks the first time the menswear designer has turned his notoriously considered aesthetic toward the home space. The designer tells us that the collection proves that great taste transcends past the wardrobe and into a guy’s home. For his first retail store, Snyder says “I shopped for all the furniture myself and enjoyed spending time discovering hidden gems at antique shops and flea markets, ultimately selling them alongside my collections.”
For the CB2 collection, he drew inspirations from Savile Row tailoring and historic New York City townhouses. Each piece is rooted in artisanship, crafted with fabrics from renowned mills, layered materials aged by hand and unexpected details. It’s the kind of formula that also makes a great outfit, right?
But getting it just right isn’t easy. Snyder says the process took over two years and spans everything from crystalline barware and a leather catchall (finished with herringbone wool) to an armchair upholstered in shearling from New Zealand and walnut valet chair which, you might correctly guess, is my personal favorite of the whole range. Ryan Turf, President of CB2, says the goal was items that feel “refined yet livable, elevated without feeling precious.” That balance is exactly what Snyder has always gotten right in his flagships. Now we can stop admiring it and start living with it.
