There's something about summertime that makes driving more enjoyable. It's the season of road trips. The sun is shining, you can roll the windows down and enjoy the fresh air. You already know about Waze, and you probably have your preferred parking app, but this summer there are a handful of helpful new apps to make your driving a whole lot more fun, not to mention affordable. Herewith, a handful we recommend. Don't get behind the wheel before tapping these first.

Take the hassle out of driving to the gas station (possibly waiting in line) and getting gas—just use this app to request on-demand gas delivery to your home or workplace. You can tap on your location and find out the delivery price and compare to local gas prices (they can usually beat local prices by a few cents). Available in a handful of cities at the moment, you can request yours if you're not being served yet.

If you prefer to pump your own gas (or find yourself on a road trip looking to fill up), this app will steer you in the right direction. It shows you all the best up-to-the-minute prices in your area and gives directions to the station. There's also handy tools like a trip cost calculator, reviews of the cleanest restrooms, car wash availability and more. According to the company behind the app, following their recommendations for a year nets the average driver more than $300 in savings.

Some people love washing their cars. If that's you, then you don't need these apps. No, these are for the people who want a clean, sparkling car but don't have the time or desire to scrub it down themselves. The services dispatch a washer (equipped with their own supplies, power and water) to fullly wash and detail your car. When the job is a complete, you're sent a photo of the work and can choose to tip or rate the washer within the app. Available in major cities throughout Florida, Southern California, Arizona, Georgia and New Jersey, they're continuing to expand into other cities.
Washé, available on iOS and Android

This is an app and an accompanying sensor that you have to buy and install, but the time and investment pays off with peace of mind. Once your sensor is plugged into your vehicle, it can communicate through the app to decipher those scary "check engine" lights that pop up when you least need them to. The app also offers helpful and specific information about maintenance and care based on your car's make and model.
