3 Ways
to Wear Cashmere
With Davide Baroncini,
founder of Ghiaia
I discovered Ghiaia (pronounced Ghe-i-ya) during the early pandemic days thanks to photographer Justin Chung's involvement in their “Stories” series. The storytelling through elegant imagery, beautiful merchandising and cashmere sweaters evokes a lot of emotion thanks to brand founder Davide Baroncini. In the same way Ralph Lauren was able to capture the aspirational American lifestyle, Davide is able to do the same—except with Italy's relaxed elegance. His brand is rooted in vintage cars, sea-diving watches and the kind of timeless soft tailoring that goes great with an afternoon espresso.
The Sicilian born designer has done a great job at reimagining a classic menswear staple, the cashmere sweater. Ghiaia's version is made in Italy from 100% cashmere and finished with a ribbed neck, cuffs and hem for a more modern design and fit. Of course, they don't come cheap. One of these heirloom-quality sweaters is quite the investment, but it's something that can be worn over and over again and styled with anything year-round. Who better to ask on how to style such a sartorial staple?
Baroncini often pairs his looks with classic pieces in inviting neutral tones, such as creams, navy and grey colors that really give off a nonchalant elegance that only Italians can seem to pull off. He says the secret is in mixing tones and textures—keeping things tailored yet relaxed to give you a refined, effortless look. We caught up with him to see what he's been eyeing lately to pair with his sweaters.

Care
Dry cleaning can stiffen and actually damage wool fibers, especially cashmere. Your best bet is to hand wash your sweater after eight to ten wearings.
