FYI
Krasinski is the fifth actor to take on Jack Ryan, following the likes of Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine.
How to swipe some style points from the all-American action hero
The latest release for Amazon Prime, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, is a prequel of sorts to the long-running Clancy franchise of the 1980s and '90s. But despite an opening scene set in the early 1980s (prior to the original novels), this isn't your typical prequel. Rather, it's more of a modern day reboot, with a smart and slightly irreverent Jack Ryan—the C.I.A. analyst who becomes a reluctant action hero—swapping Cold War zones for terrorist hotspots in Yemen and the Middle East.
The show is splashy and well-shot even if a few critics found it slightly formulaic. Everyone seems to agree that John Krasinski makes a fine Jack Ryan. A clean cut Boy Scout that's just rough enough around the edges and willing to learn from his mentor James Greer, deftly played here by Wendell Pierce. They're outfitted for action in rugged, handsome pieces with military influences—from field jackets and aviators to a particularly cool stainless steel chronograph with black PVD coating. They're staples that make the good guys look damn good.
