Holiday sweaters tend to fall into two camps: Old school intarsia styles, with vibrant colors and Nordic reindeers, and the bedazzled, felt-patched versions favored by school teachers (woven from nearly indestructible polyacrylonitrile fibers). They're something of a sartorial paradox—we love to hate them, and yet they remain oddly popular ever since emerging into American culture sometime in the 1950s. But as you can see, they're not all bad. Eggnog, anyone?
