FYI: Within the 451 pages of the $700 billion bailout of Wall Street (PDF), there's a little beauty in there working for the betterment of your sweaters, scarfs and suits. The measure suspends tariffs on select imported wools until 2014 and puts the tax gains from other foreign wools into a little-known Wool Trust Fund, which "promotes the competitiveness of American wool." Glad to see the government has those priorities in check.

Total cost over ten years:
$148 million

Warm Up a Room

You're finally sporting that favorite sweater, so why does your living room look the same as it did this summer, save for the Dark 'n Stormy on the end table? A knit blanket slung onto the sofa, folded over the back of a club chair or placed at the end of your bed will add some seasonal texture while keeping your date warm while you're watching TV. Sure, you could splurge on some cashmere version, but we suggest a sturdy charcoal wool throw. Like a neutral v-neck sweater, it's appropriate for date-night, but could withstand tailgating at the game as well. Alpaca and wool 'Horizon' throw, $129, at Room & Board.

  • Fashion design duo Lutz & Patmos, known for luxe cashmere knits, designed their first collection of home furnishings in collaboration with West Elm. Cable throw, $89, at West Elm.
