Noticing
a Pattern

Watching the style pack at the recent round of fashion shows in Florence, Milan and Paris, we began noticing a pattern. Literally. The woodland camouflage pattern, designed in 1948 by the Engineer Research & Development Lab at Fort Belvoir, Virginia and first issued to the Marines back in 1968. Now it's been co-opted by designers for shorts, ties and jackets. But it takes a bold man to pull off a camo blazer. Which is why I wanted this classic hunter's tote from L.L. Bean. It's just enough of the pattern to be playfully current and yet it comes in a rugged bag that will last decades (if not longer). The company says the heavy-duty, water-resistant bag is ideal for waterfowling, dog training or shooting. But I'll likely use it more for daily iPad lugging, weekend road trips and going to the beach. Style, utility and versatility. You can't ask for much more from a tote.
