The Hopsack Blazer

Every man needs an all-purpose jacket, and for the spring/summer season a navy hopsack blazer will be a workhorse for your wardrobe. And why not? The fabric's pedigree is derived from a burlap sack farmers used to store the grain before it was shipped off to make beer. (How's that for masculine?) It's now cut into a blazer and finished with brass buttons—a working man's fabric with country club style. Which explains why hopsack jackets have been found in a handful of all-American collections this season. Gant Rugger and Hickey make exceptional updated versions but it's hard to beat this classic option by Lands' End. With a full satin lining and a slightly padded shoulder, it has just the right amount of structure to look at once casual and debonair. The jacket's so affordable, we suggest taking it to the tailor and spending fifty bucks getting the sleeves narrowed and the waist nipped in. Then, once it fits perfectly, feel free to wear the hell out of it. Because a company that makes school uniforms knows how to construct a jacket that can take a beating.
