Like a great pair of jeans, a denim jacket is an essential piece of clothing every man should own. It's one of those rare garments that can be worn all year long, in the morning or in the evening, with a T-shirt or with a tie. And when it's really cold out, layer it under your bigger coats or even under your corduroy or tweed blazers. Wear it however you'd like, because you see, when you pull on a jean jacket, you instantly get a shot of badass style, because you can't separate the jacket from its rich history—the cowboys, bikers and punk rockers who've all worn the jacket before you. These days, they come in all sorts of iterations and some are better than others. You could go with a pre-distressed, worn-in style but we suggest going raw. That way, the jacket can form to your body and develop characteristics that are unique to you and your lifestyle. Once you find the one that's right for you, make sure the fit is on point. That means slightly snug, but still able to be buttoned. Then roll the sleeves or pop the collar—make it your own. Whatever you do, don't be too precious with it. That's the beauty of a denim jacket. You can (and should) wear the hell out of it.
