It's something of an unlikely pairing—an irreverent New York brand best known for its urban carryalls and wicked sense of humor, and a century-old British outfitter best known for its rugged jackets and royal warrants. But it just so happens that Barbour's head of menswear is good friends with Cuan Hanly, Jack Spade's brand director and vice president. "Barbour's design team was an absolute pleasure. We were granted amazing access to the entire Barbour archives, which led to many of the best inspirations," says Hanly. "For instance, the idea to use heavyweight wax fabric reinforcements was sparked by this old custom jacket we unearthed, which had belonged to an eccentric British soldier." The resulting collection mixes old world materials and craftsmanship with modern details. Like the worn-in waxed canvas Plimpton jacket (based off an old discontinued style, the Solway) finished with an of-the-moment orange lining. Or a weekender bag with clever additions like a removable zipper pouch for your iPad and a waterproof compartment for wet shoes or dirty clothes. The messenger bag shaped like a jacket's game pocket? Now there's that signature Spade humor.
