Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 drama The Outsiders, based on the 1967 novel of the same name, brought together an all-star cast of young actors—Rob Lowe, Matt Dillon, Patrick Swayze, Tom Cruise—to play a rowdy gang of working-class greasers who take on the rich bullies in their Oklahoma town. The look is a whole lot of slicked hair, denim jackets and classic jeans in hues dark to light. The common thread is length of the guys' jeans. Hemmed high or cuffed, the gang's denim barely graze their scuffed Chuck Taylors and worn work boots. Ditch those socks and it's a style that wouldn't be out of place on the street today.
