Pared-Down Bombers

Epaulet's Mike Kuhle has been coming out with some impressive outerwear lately. When we thought he couldn't top a double-breasted technical sport coat, he proved us wrong. The Eisenhower jacket takes a bomber silhouette and strips it down to the basics: slit side pockets, button cuffs, a point collar and a Blackwatch plaid lining with an internal pocket. Cropped just a bit, it also features subtle details like a throat latch and luxe leather lining. Here's the kicker: they've produced them in three warm fabrics to make them accessible at different price points. You can choose between a buttery tobacco goat suede, a charcoal version made from Loro Piana wool flannel, or an equally subtle navy melton wool version—which costs less than half of the suede version. When an independent boutique is manufacturing quality in-house goods, made here in America, while taking into account the budgets of their diverse customer base, that's a win for everyone involved.
