The Wrong Way

Forget the lumpy bedding and lack of any art on the wall, the bed's position is what's killing this room.

The Better Way

Designer Kyle Schuneman shows that even in a smaller room, a centered bed makes all the difference. Want the bedding? It's his own design.

It's a common mistake. One that's usually carried over from childhood or dorm room living. Especially when you don't have a very big bedroom, pushing the bed frame against one wall seemingly frees up more room. But one might ask, why do you need to maximize floor space in your bedroom? Find another place to do your daily push-ups in order have a more mature place to rest, relax and invite others to stay the night. Because a bed tucked against a wall certainly makes it hard for two people to get in and out of comfortably. There's nothing sexy about having to scoot to the other side.

You don't need the extra floor space. You need to anchor the room with your bed and allow it to breathe with proper space on both sides. Ideally, there's enough room to put a side table on each side. But if not, a simple plant or maybe a lamp will do. Trust us, it's a small move that has a big impact.
