There's a Reason Why Fire
Is So Romantic
The science behind why flames make us want to get it on.
Music and sex go together like, chocolate and strawberries. Or chocolate-covered strawberries and, well, sex. And not simply in the way that candles help set the mood. Music has been scientifically proven to increase your dopamine (the pleasure hormone) levels, boost your libido and produce a reaction similar to a subtle orgasm.
Which might explain why when the right song is playing while you're in bed with your partner, everything seems in sync. Of course, similarly, the wrong song can ruin the moment. Which is exactly what Dave Zellinksy was thinking when he created BedBeats, an app that syncs up with your sexual rhythms. "I legitimately came up with the idea because the playlist and music was pulling me out of the moment," he recently told Urban Daddy.
Available for both iPhone and Android, it appears to be the first app dedicated to audibly improving your sex life. Here's how it works: You open the app and turn up the volume or sync it a Bluetooth-enabled speaker. Then place your phone on the bed and the app accesses the phone's internal sensors and gyroscopes to determine what music to serve up. BedBeats responds to your movement and will automatically invigorate or mellow its built-in tracks. Unfortunately, you can't add your own music at the moment, but a six-song starter pack covers a range of styles, from dance and funk to chill sounds and smooth jazz.
Does it have potential? And are they on to something with this? Absolutely. It'd be great for your sexual encounters to be enhanced with perfectly tempo-ed music. But we'd like a little more control over which songs are played and that's after the slightly awkward conversation of explaining it to the person we're about to have sex with.
